What is ZAMCOPS?

ZAMCOPS is an acronym for Zambian Music Copyright Protection Society. It was formed by Composers, Authors, and Publishers of music in 1994. ZAMCOPS is registered by the Office of the Registrar of Companies but is supervised by the Office of the Registrar of Copyright in the Ministry of Commerce as a Collecting Society, in line with the Copyright and Performance Rights Act no. 44 of 1994.

ZAMCOPS has continued to improve the WIPOCOS database in a bid to record and maintain accurate data of members and also make timely and accurate distributions.

Adequately trained staff in copyright administration

Due to strong links with the Government, CISAC and WIPO, ZAMCOPS’ staff have been trained in various copyright administration techniques and procedures.

Monopolistic status

ZAMCOPS has a strong position to influence and lobby government and other strategic stakeholders as it carries out its mandate because it is the only society that administers public performance, mechanical rights and synchronizing rights in Zambia.
